A Bee Talk for Year 2 – 4th July 2023

Mrs Sheila Birkby (Mrs Birkby’s Mother-in-law) visited Year 2 with her observation hive of bees.

Sheila taught the children the importance of bees and what their role is in pollination – and she taught the children how to tell the difference between a Honey Bee, a wasp and a Bumble Bee.
The children got to wear bee keeper outfits and they had fun trying to spot the Queen Bee in the hive.
They looked at bees wax and got to taste two different sorts of honey – mono floral honey (honey collected when bees have visited rapeseed fields) and multi floral honey (honey collected from Spring Blossoms).
Thank you to both Mrs Birkbys for organising a very interesting afternoon for Year 2!!
