Year 6’s World War II Day – 21st March 2017 (1941)

Year 6’s World War II Day – 21st March 2017 (1941)

To get Year 6 into the spirit of what it was like to be at school during the Second World War they dressed up for the day and pretended to be evacuees from the city.

Holding their Gas Masks (and Teddy Bears) the children lined up for school, had their nails checked and then came into school for their lessons. These included a lesson on Oranges, some arithmetic and at lunch time where they sampled what the food was like in 1941. A good time was had by all – apart from when that ‘shouty’ Headmaster arrived and demanded that they stood up when he entered the room.

For lunch and during the afternoon Cynthia Wilcock visited Year 6. Cynthia lived in Liverpool during the Second World War and was evacuated to Wales. She told the children how when she returned to Liverpool, many of the houses around hers were bombed. She told the children what it was like to be a 10 year old evacuee during the war.
