Year 6 – On the Move – Refugee Simulation – 15th March 2019

The theme for this year’s Red Nose Day was REFUGEES. Our Worships this week looked at the problems refugees face and how we can help…

Year 6 decided to take this one step further and try to see how it felt to be a refugee.

They got into families of 6 and each chose 6 items to take. The journey was simulated and the children moved around school and outside. As they faced problems like losing bags or people “being injured” they had to make difficult choices about what to leave behind. The children found this very difficult. One of the hardest things was splitting the family up to get into boats.

Afterwards they reflected on their feelings and decided it would be very difficult to leave behind pets and to make difficult choices over what to take. They also said they felt quite stressed as they had to make a lot of decisions quickly.
