Year 4’s trip to Cuerden Valley – 20th June 2019

Year Four went to Cuerden Valley Park yesterday to further their learning about rivers including River Thames, Severn and Ribble, water cycle and living things in their environment.

Luckily, the weather stayed dry for us and the Year Fours spent most of the day in the River Lostock, with our new friends Claire and Elizabeth, where we:

  • pond dipped – using kick sampling technique
  • identified mini-beasts using classification keys.  we found many unexpected creatures which told us that the River Lostock is very clean and not polluted
  • panned for crystals in the river bed (which we were allowed to keep!)
  • measured the speed, width, depth and temperature of the river
  • sketched and labelled different features of the river

We had a brilliant day and spent most of it on a beach, although it’s not like one you would see in Greece or Portugal for example!

Thank you to Mrs Seeley, Mrs Williamson, Mrs Goodier and Mrs Ascroft who managed to keep us dry!
