Ash Wednesday – 22nd February 2023
This morning, the staff and children (and friends of THT) joined Fr Mark, Fr Tristan and Danny in Church for our Ash Wednesday service.
During the service Danny reminded us how Lent can be seen as a time of reflection and ‘self cleansing’. It is also a time of penance – saying sorry.
At the end of the service, those who wanted to, were marked on the forehead with the sign of a cross in Ash.
As the ashes are applied to our forehead the Fr Mark and Fr Tristan spoke the words: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” The Ashes represent penance.
Before the service began, I gave Fr Mark a cheque for just over £282 – raised for the church by the children, staff, parents and carers of THT – so that the school can pay for the ‘running of the church’ for a day.
The Choir Church was also presented with the Chalice , Ciborium and Pattern which has been donated to our Choir Church in memory of the recently departed parishioner Pat Jackett.
